Introducing our new model E-CITY 28" PRO MC (Central Motor). Why a central motor? It is the most sophisticated type of assistance, our motors are equipped with torque sensor. We talk about a proportional assistance because the power supplied by the motor is proportional to the pressure exerted by the user on the pedals. In other words, if I exert as much force as possible on the pedals, on a steep climb for example, the motor will deliver all its power, while if I press lightly on the pedals, the system detects that I don't need as much power and the assistance will be less. This assistance management is possible thanks to the information provided by several sensors: the torque sensor, the speed sensor and the pedaling cadence sensor. The controller, which is the brain of the electrical system, will then analyze this information and instruct the motor to provide more or less assistance. It should be noted that the weight distribution is optimized in a mid-motor E-Bike: the bike is more manageable and more stable. Thus, the assistance is smoother, the motor is forgotten and we end up forgetting that we have assistance. An ideal urban bike for effortless city (or trail) riding thanks to its pedal-assist system and mid-motor. No matter how far you have to go, thanks to its removable 48V 13Ah battery (624Wh) fully integrated into the frame. An urban and trendy look, specially designed for the city. Its 7005 aluminum frame provides performance and comfort. In addition, it has all the features of a city bike: front and rear LED lights, integrated rear rack, mudguards, kickstand and bell. Equipped with a powerful and quiet 250W Brushless AKM central motor offering a torque of 70Nm. The lithium battery; fully integrated into the frame and removable 48V 13Ah (624Wh) offers a range of up to 120km*.

More about autonomy

The battery of an electric bicycle is a kind of energy reservoir for the assistance system. The autonomy of the battery is completely linked to the bike and depends on many parameters and factors that have a direct influence. It can vary from one to three times (and even more) depending on:

A) The orography (flat, moderate relief, high relief) - The type of route
  • Urban: with many energy-consuming stops/starts
  • In the field: rather fluid and linear
  • On mountain roads with climbs where the electric assistance will put the battery to the test for a sustained period of time with routes where the difference in altitude can be very significant in total.
B) Type of Bicycle and User's Weight
  • Example of a 25 kg Dutch bike with a very upright rider position that offers significant air resistance for a person weighing 90 kg will automatically "consume" more than a person weighing 70 kg.
C) Type of tyres:
  • Type of rubber, structure, size, but above all the optimal tyre inflation! Using an electric bike with under-inflated tyres can result in a loss of range (in km) of 30%.
D) Climate and outdoor conditions:
  • In cold weather, a battery naturally loses its autonomy. The optimum temperature is between 15 and 25°C.
E) Mode of assistance used:
  • If the user is driving in eco mode, he will of course be able to cover a longer distance than in Turbo mode.

The integration of the battery into the frame gives it additional stiffness and better weight distribution, making the bike more dynamic. The battery is also better protected in case of impact.

48V 13Ah (624Wh) battery = 120Km* - 70/75kg person in eco mode.

36V 16Ah battery (576 Wh) = 80km * - 70/75kg person in eco mode.

36V 10Ah battery (360 Wh) = 70Km * - 70/75kg person in eco mode.

How many kilometres can I cover with my electric bike? This is the big question we ask ourselves when we want to buy an electric bike and the answer is complex, as it depends on many factors.

The first and foremost factor in terms of the autonomy of a fully charged battery is the energy stored in the battery, which we quantify in watt hours (Wh) and obtain by multiplying the battery volts (V) by the ampere hours (Ah), e.g. a 48V13Ah battery has a fully charged energy of 624Wh and a 36V16Ah battery has an energy of 576Wh.

Once we are clear about the concept of energy, we have to look at the power of the motor, which is what will determine the consumption of this energy. A bicycle for legal use in the EU can have a motor with a maximum rated power of 250W, but it does not consume the same when working at the limit of its capacity on a climb of more than 20% (it can have peak consumption of around 150% of its rated power) as when we use it quietly in a place with no slopes.

Once this is understood, we can also say that it is of no use to us if the cyclist who climbs 20% does so with a low level of assistance and does most of the work pedalling and the cyclist who rides on the flat, rides with a high level of assistance and does not make any effort, leaving all the work to the motor... In addition to this factor, which is obviously key to autonomy, we can add that factors such as the cyclist's weight, his position, his pedalling cadence and the number of times he starts and stops have a lesser influence, as the starts cause consumption peaks.

The type of terrain (hilly or flat), the surfaces (asphalt or road) and even the wind (headwind) and the type and geometry of the tyre also have an impact.

For all these reasons, it is very difficult to provide accurate and reliable information about the range of the bike. The information we provide on the range of our products is for a person of 75kg with a normal use of the bike, i.e. mountain bikes with a combined use of roads with climbs and descents, urban bikes with trips in the city with a lot of start and stop cycles, etc.

We do not advertise maximum ranges, but real ones with tests without looking for a particularly low consumption. We have achieved ranges of more than 200km looking for maximum efficiency, but we understand that it would be dishonest to advertise them as the use of resources was not normal.

We can only add that the aspect that makes moma electric bicycles stand out from the competition is precisely the autonomy, 100% of professionals who have tested them have been impressed with this data, for us it is essential in this type of vehicle and we work every day to improve it as far as possible with batteries with high energy storage capacity and very efficient motors that consume as little energy as possible.
